History

ILUNI UI USA CHAPTER INC

It all began one fateful afternoon with the singing of the song we all knew as UI students: “GENDERANG UI”

In 2011, a group of friends who were all UI alumni and resided in the Washington DC metro area, gathered to reminisce about their time at university. They sang and played music, rekindling memories of their freshmen year when they sang “Hymne Alma Mater Universitas Indonesia”, “Gaudeamus Igitur”, “Rayuan Pulau Kelapa”, and many other songs at Balairung, the main hall of UI. This was a time they always looked back upon fondly.

During a visit in April 2012, the conductor of the acceptance ceremony and graduation song, AG Soedibyo, affectionately known as “Mas Dibyo”, encouraged them to establish an extension of the ILUNI UI organization in the US.

A year later, 19 alumni members gathered at Wisma Indonesia, the ambassador’s residence in DC, on April 21, 2013, to discuss the possibility of forming such an organization. And on September 21, 2013, during the Inaugural Night event attended by the UI Alumni Relations Team from Jakarta, the Iluni UI USA Chapter was officially established. The chapter is committed to providing a platform that connects alumni in the US with each other and with the university.
