Hains Point, Washington DC
Join us for a charity race to benefit underprivileged college students in Indonesia.
“Batik 5K Run and Fun Walk” will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2015 at East Potomac Park, Washington DC, starting at 8:00 AM. This event is a fast, flat 5k race around Hains Point. The course begins at the Channel side of East Potomac Park, follows Ohio Drive around Hains Point and down the Potomac side of the park, then reverses direction at the 2.5km mark.
This is a fun event for runners, walkers and families who want to participate in a healthy, exciting competition while supporting a good cause. All (100%) of the net proceedings (after cost of the event) will go directly to our scholarship fund.
The use of “Batik” as our theme provides connection to Indonesia, the largest archipelagic nation in the world known for its rich, diverse cultures. The many facets of Indonesian society are often translated into patterns in traditional clothing. Originally from Indonesian island of Java, Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to whole cloth. It also can refer to cloth made using this technique. In 2009, UNESCO designated Indonesian Batik as Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Registration fee is $25.
All participants will get a Batik-themed t-shirt for this event. You can wear this t-shirt, or wear your own traditional/ethnic-themed outfit for the race! There will be Indonesian traditional music and an attractive Indonesian folk dance, to raise your spirit and cheer you on!
You can also raise additional funds from your friends and families for this cause! For more information, go to the “Fundraising/Donate” tab above.
This race is organized and sponsored by ILUNI, USA Chapter. ILUNI is the Indonesian acronym for the Alumni Association of the University of Indonesia.
